Ford Escort NASA Racer~~U.S. Version

Nial McCabe's Ford '92 Escort at Pocono, Lime Rock and Summit Point-2007

This car was wearing "#11" at Pocono and "909" at Lime Rock and Summit. For 2008, it will run the "909" numbers only.

I also race an Austin Healey Sprite, but I have "retired" it to vintage racing. The Sprite won a number of small bore EMRA Endurance Championships, so it deserves a rest.

(above) Had a great race with Joe (VW) and Tom (Honda).

(above) Sports Renault lurking as we enter the big track.

(above) Using the *entire* track.

(above) After the fuel got lower in the tank, it started to starve a bit in right handers. Since then, I've bent the fuel pickup down a bit, but generally, the best thing to do is to keep the tank pretty full.

(above) In this phots, car is running 13" steel rims with 0.25 wheel spacers to clear the disc calipers (the stock Escort GT has 15" wheels). Tires are Hoosier 225/45-13. I also have 14 X 6.5 aluminum wheels (which I prefer).

(above) First time out.

(above) Kind of fun to race with a gaggle of Entropy Racing Sports Renaults....they sneak up on you and are hard to see. The Escort can stay with them in the high speed section, but not in the twisty infield.

(above) The car was able to make 7200 RPM in fourth on the big part of the Pocono...not bad for a stock motor. Even though it's not an "interference" engine, I put a new timing belt on when I built it.

(above) A bit of leaning here, but understandable. The car still has stock shocks....it's just lowered a bit.

(above) I pulled off the standard rear wing and the various "aero" bits.

(above) At a rainy Lime Rock in Fall 2007. Number changed to "909".
